The central city has approved an investment plan by FTZ Kita Trung Nam Company (including two members – Kita Group and Trung Nam joint-stock Corporation) – to build infrastructure on the sixth functional area of the Đà Nẵng Free Trade Zone (FTZ6).

A source from Đà Nẵng's Special Economic Zone Authority (DZEZA), which oversees the Đà Nẵng Hi-Tech Park, IT Park, six industrial parks, four concentrated information technology zones and the Free Trade Zone, said the investor plans to develop the area as an International Commercial & Service Gate on 154ha, with an investment of VNĐ3.35 trillion (US$134 million) in Bà Nà commune in 2026-30.

It said the project would start construction on the site in 2027 for completion in the fourth quarter of 2029.

The two partners – Kita Group and Trung Nam Corporation – have restarted the Golden Hills City project, an eco-urban zone, worth VNĐ15.5 trillion ($620 million) in 2026-34.

DZEZA said a series of projects on the FTZ have started since 2025.

In August, the local Industrial Park developer Sài Gòn-Đà Nẵng Investment Joint Stock Corporation (SDN) commenced construction of the second functional area of the Đà Nẵng Free Trade Zone (FTZ2), also known as Eagle FTZ, on 75ha with an investment of VNĐ1.6 trillion ($61.3 million).

Two other local investors – Phương Trang Group and Thanh Bình Phú Mỹ JSC – have been granted investment licences to develop the FTZ's third and fourth functional areas (FTZ3 and FTZ4).

Last year, local property developer Sun Group started construction of the fifth functional area (FTZ5) on 90ha with an investment of $32 million.

Earlier this year, local investor Sài Gòn-Đà Nẵng Investment JSC (SDN) also started construction on the Hòa Nhơn Industrial Park.

The 1,881ha Đà Nẵng FTZ was designed with seven functional areas in total, dedicated to manufacturing, logistics, trade and services, digital technology, information technology and innovation.

The city has been calling for investment in the other functional areas: FTZ1 and FTZ7.

It is expected that the Đà Nẵng FTZ would contribute 17.9 percent to Đà Nẵng City’s gross egional domestic product (GRDP) and create 127,000 jobs by 2040.

Đà Nẵng City has been boosting co-operation with major domestic and international investors including Terne Holdings Group, One Destination, BRG Group, Imex Pan Pacific, Newtechco Group in promoting investment in the FTZ.

The FTZ will expand its boundary southward to cover the current Chu Lai Open Economic Zone.
