Emirates marks 10 years of Hà Nội operations, cargo exports rise

The airline, which began serving Hà Nội as its second passenger destination in Việt Nam after HCM City, has operated more than 6,140 flights on the route over the past decade, transporting about 74 million kilos of cargo in aircraft belly holds.

Emirates has carried more than 1.7 million passengers between Hà Nội and Dubai since launching flights to the Vietnamese capital in 2016, as the airline expands its cargo operations amid rising export volumes from northern Việt Nam.

The airline, which began serving Hà Nội as its second passenger destination in Việt Nam after HCM City, has operated more than 6,140 flights on the route over the past decade, transporting about 74 million kilos of cargo in aircraft belly holds, it said.

Emirates SkyCargo transported more than 21,630 tonnes of export cargo from Hà Nội in the 2025-26 financial year, up 57 per cent from the previous year. Between April and August 2026, export shipments reached 10,700 tonnes, a 52 per cent increase year-on-year, the airline said.

In July, Emirates SkyCargo launched a weekly transpacific charter service from Hà Nội to Chicago O'Hare International Airport, expanding cargo links between northern Việt Nam and the US.

The airline currently operates five weekly dedicated freighter services from Hà Nội, serving markets across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent, it said.

Wahid Albalooshi, Emirates' country manager in Việt Nam, said Hà Nội has become an increasingly important gateway for tourism, investment and exports from northern Việt Nam over the past decade.

The airline aims to improve air links between Việt Nam and the UAE while helping local businesses, including small- and medium-sized enterprises, reach international markets, he said.

Trade ties between Việt Nam and the UAE continue to deepen, supported by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement that came into effect on February 3 2026, which provides a framework for stronger bilateral trade and investment.
