Officially opening on October 3, AEON Hải Dương, the 10th shopping mall developed by the AEON Group in Việt Nam, offers a modern shopping experience while fostering a green environment through various sustainable solutions.

Striving for sustainability standards in design and operations

As part of its commitment to sustainable development, AEON Hải Dương secured a provisional "LOTUS Gold for New Construction" certification from the Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC) before its grand opening.

Furthermore, the shopping mall is also in the final stages of obtaining the international EDGE "Advanced" green building certification from the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

This is the result of a series of integrated solutions applied throughout the design, construction, and operational phases. The project prioritises the use of eco-friendly materials and optimises energy efficiency through a next-generation HVAC system combined with solar energy technology. Furthermore, the design reduces the volume of concrete used and incorporates specific colours and thermal insulation materials that help mitigate the urban heat island effect, particularly on rooftops and exterior surfaces.

AEON Hải Dương places a strong emphasis on ensuring optimal air quality, lighting and temperature. Waste sorting, material reuse, and environmental quality monitoring are strictly implemented throughout both the construction and operational phases. As a result, the interior space of the centre is designed to provide a safe and comfortable experience for customers.

In partnership with the local community and its customers, AEON Vietnam has planted over 13,000 trees around its shopping centres, each carefully selected to thrive in the local soil. Beyond contributing to a greener living environment, this initiative reflects AEON’s commitment to working alongside the community to nurture new growth; every tree serves as a symbol of AEON’s enduring dedication to both nature and the local community.

At the AEON Hải Dương shopping centre, AEON Vietnam actively encourages responsible consumption among customers. Specifically, within the AEON General Merchandise Store and supermarket area, the company offers an eco-friendly bag rental service. Customers can borrow between one and three bags at the counter, with a deposit of VNĐ5,000 per bag (which is 100 per cent refundable upon the return of the bags).

Starting this December, a priority checkout lane will be introduced at this centre, exclusively for customers who do not use plastic bags, making it easier for shoppers to adopt eco-friendly consumption habits.

Partnering for economic development and improving quality of life

In addition to meeting environmental standards, the AEON Hải Dương shopping centre contributes to the local area’s sustainable socio-economic development.

Tezuka Daisuke, a member of the Group’s executive board, Chief Representative of the AEON Group in Việt Nam and General Director of AEON Vietnam, expects the project to deliver tangible value to the local community. By creating about 900 job opportunities, the centre will help boost the local economy while also providing a broad platform to showcase the region’s signature products.

“Hải Dương’s lychees are consistently the most sought-after items during the annual ‘Vietnam Goods Fair’ held in Japan. Through the AEON Group’s global retail network, we hope to continue our partnership and help bring local products to an even wider audience,” Daisuke said.

AEON Vietnam also affirms its role as a bridge, supporting local enterprises, suppliers, and OCOP (One Commune, One Product) goods in gaining access to modern distribution systems.

A notable highlight is the seminar titled "AEON Vietnam: Accompanying and Growing Alongside Local Enterprises and Business Partners", organised by AEON in collaboration with the Hải Phòng Department of Industry and Trade, which creates opportunities for local products to enhance their competitiveness and expand their market reach.
