Vietnamese technology group VNG has repositioned itself around artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to build a digital ecosystem and drive its next phase of growth.

Speaking at the company's annual general meeting on Saturday, founder and chairman Lê Hồng Minh announced VNG's new positioning: building Việt Nam's digital ecosystem in the AI era.

The strategy builds on more than two decades of investment in digital platforms spanning communications, payments, entertainment and AI infrastructure.

VNG's announcement comes after the firm reached a key financial milestone in 2025, reporting positive operating profit for the first time since its shares began trading in 2023.

Consolidated revenue rose 17 per cent year-on-year to VNĐ10.9 trillion (US$414 million), while adjusted operating profit improved from a loss of VNĐ286 billion to a profit of VNĐ57 billion.

Shareholders approved a 2026 business plan targeting net revenue of VNĐ12.5-13.5 trillion, representing growth of 15-25 per cent, alongside pre-tax profit of VNĐ300-450 billion.

In the first quarter of 2026, revenue increased 32 per cent year-on-year to VNĐ2.79 trillion, while adjusted operating profit jumped 154 per cent to VNĐ470 billion.

Minh said VNG's ecosystem – spanning messaging platform Zalo, payment service Zalopay, gaming business VNGGames and AI infrastructure provider GreenNode – gives the company a strong foundation to capitalise on opportunities created by AI.

More than 150,000 businesses and organisations currently use Zalo to engage with customers, while over 5,000 Mini Apps have been developed on the platform by third-party partners.

VNG said Zalopay is expanding beyond digital payments by connecting users with a broader range of financial services through partnerships with banks and other institutions.

The company also plans to deepen cooperation with international partners as it expands its presence beyond Việt Nam.

Meanwhile, GreenNode provides AI infrastructure services to thousands of domestic and international enterprises, supporting digital transformation and AI adoption.
