Nguyễn Trung Chính, chairman of CMC Corporation, has been appointed as a Shingiin, or member of the Board of Councillors, of Keidanren – the Japan Business Federation – marking a new milestone in technology cooperation between Việt Nam and Japan.

His term began on June 3 and will run until the conclusion of Keidanren's Annual General Meeting in 2028.

Keidanren is one of Japan's most influential business organisations, bringing together leading corporations, industry associations and regional economic groups. Through its Board of Councillors, representatives of member companies discuss long-term economic, industrial, technological and social issues affecting Japan's business community.

According to a representative of Keidanren, Chính and CMC have actively contributed to strengthening links between Japanese and Vietnamese businesses, particularly in digital transformation, artificial intelligence and technology cooperation.

"Nguyễn Trung Chính and CMC have played an active role in connecting the Japanese business community with Việt Nam. In his capacity as Shingiin, we expect him to continue contributing perspectives from Việt Nam and ASEAN while promoting new cooperation initiatives in the digital economy, AI, technology infrastructure and human resource development," the representative said.

The appointment comes as Việt Nam and Japan continue to expand their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into emerging sectors such as AI, semiconductors, cybersecurity, data centres and digital infrastructure.

Japan has been one of CMC's key overseas markets for more than two decades. Through its operations in Tokyo, Osaka and Yokohama, the corporation provides digital transformation services, cloud computing, software development and AI solutions to Japanese customers.

In 2024, CMC opened its third office in Tokyo and officially joined Keidanren.

Speaking about the appointment, Chính described it as both an honour and a responsibility.

"I deeply appreciate the trust of Keidanren and the Japanese business community. In my role as Shingiin, I hope to contribute more to strengthening economic, technological and innovation cooperation between Việt Nam and Japan," he said.

According to Chính, CMC plans to further expand cooperation with Japanese businesses, research institutes and universities in areas including AI, data centres, semiconductors, research and development and digital talent training.
