FPT and SCSK unveil COBOL PARK to drive legacy system modernisation

Global IT services provider FPT, through its Japan subsidiary, has partnered with Japanese technology leader SCSK Corporation to launch COBOL PARK Co., Ltd., a joint venture dedicated to helping Japanese organisations maintain and modernise mission-critical mainframe and COBOL-based legacy systems.

Global IT services provider FPT, through its Japan subsidiary, and Japanese technology leader SCSK Corporation has announced the launch of COBOL PARK Co., Ltd., a joint venture focused on supporting Japanese organisations running mission-critical mainframes and COBOL-based legacy systems. Under the agreement, SCSK holds 66.7% and FPT holds 33.3%.

COBOL PARK was established in response to Japan’s looming “2025 Digital Cliff”, identified by METI as a major risk stemming from aging IT infrastructures and a shrinking pool of COBOL-skilled engineers. While mainframes remain central to financial institutions due to their reliability and processing power, they face increasing operational and business-continuity challenges.

Targeting Japan’s 500-billion-yen financial IT market, COBOL PARK will offer system maintenance, modernisation strategies, and flexible migration options to help organizations maintain stability while preparing for future transformation.

The new venture builds on the strong partnership between FPT and SCSK since 2018, combining SCSK’s 50+ years of industry expertise with FPT’s global engineering capabilities and young, highly skilled workforce. FPT will also contribute advanced AI-driven modernisation solutions to improve efficiency and long-term system performance.
