Việt Nam’s Viettel Group has taken a major step onto the global high-tech stage by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UAE defence and technology powerhouse EDGE in Abu Dhabi during the Dubai Airshow 2025. The agreement positions the Vietnamese firm to collaborate on next-generation defence and dual-use technologies while expanding its international reach.

The MoU was signed by Major General Nguyễn Đình Chiến, Deputy General Director of Viettel Group, and Omar Al Zaabi, President of Commercial at EDGE, under the witness of Senior Lieutenant General Hoàng Xuân Chiến, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defence.

Under the agreement, Viettel will partner with EDGE to develop high-tech defence industrial products and services. The two sides will explore co-operation in dual-use and civilian technologies, covering 5G telecoms infrastructure, ICT solutions, semiconductors, AI-powered cameras, IoT devices, cybersecurity, logistics and e-commerce.

Viettel and EDGE will study the establishment of an OEM manufacturing model in Việt Nam for components, sub-assemblies and modules related to EDGE product lines, targeting both the UAE and global export markets.

The groups will further explore technology transfer, technical training and joint research, tailored to market needs. All co-operation will comply with the laws of both countries and relevant international regulations.

The agreement represents a strategic move for Viettel, advancing the export of high-tech 'Made in Vietnam' products and strengthening its capabilities in next-generation defence and dual-use technologies.

Founded in November 2019, EDGE is recognised as one of the world’s leading advanced technology groups. It was established to deliver agile, bold and cutting-edge defence and beyond-defence solutions, acting as a key catalyst for transformation in the sector. The group accelerates innovation, positions the UAE as a global hub for future industries, and fosters a new generation of highly skilled talent.

EDGE focuses on Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, enhancing national capacities for global exports and strengthening national security. Its portfolio spans autonomous systems, cyber-physical systems, advanced propulsion, robotics and smart materials.
