Standard labels key to building trust, expanding markets

Business owners should carefully consider the standards of their products and production systems for long-term benefits, a top official says.

Preah Sihanouk provincial authorities Tuesday asked business and craft owners to pay close attention to the quality of their products and production processes to ensure long-term benefits, particularly as more Cambodians are showing interest in using local products over imported ones.

Speaking at a seminar on “Benefits of using standard labels for products and production systems”, held at Preah Sihanouk province, Min Kompheak, Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk said that standards for products and production systems are essential for ensuring consumer safety and quality.

According to the statement of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce (CCC), the seminar was also attended by representatives from the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce (CCC), the Business Development Center (BDC), and the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and the Skills Development Fund (SDF), with support from Khmer Enterprise (KE).

The event aimed to improve product quality and safety, enhance competitiveness, expand market opportunities, and raise awareness about the importance of standard labelling in building customer trust and ensuring sustainable markets for businesses.

Kompheak said, “All business and craft owners should carefully consider the standards of their products and production systems for long-term benefits, especially as Cambodians show growing interest in using local products instead of imported ones.”

Sao Hok, Vice President of the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Chamber of Commerce, also underlined the importance of standard labels in building consumer confidence and ensuring product quality, particularly for goods destined for export.

He expressed his appreciation for the seminar, which attracted strong participation from various stakeholders.

The event featured in-depth presentations by experts from the Standards Institute of Cambodia under the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI), providing participants with valuable insights into production standards, improving product quality, and strengthening the confidence of both national and international customers.

“For Preah Sihanouk province, which is a priority area for economic, tourism, and industrial development, strengthening standards is a crucial step in creating new investment opportunities and improving industrial systems to meet future needs,” Hok said.
