Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà on June 11 approved the Ministry of Construction's proposal to grant an air transport business licence to the Sun PhuQuoc Airways Co. Ltd.

The Deputy PM instructed the ministry to take full responsibility for the proposal, proceed with the licensing process in line with regulations, and manage to ensure the safety and efficiency of civil aviation operations.

Earlier, PM Phạm Minh Chính had given in-principle approval to the Sun PhuQuoc Airways project of the Sun PhuQuoc Airways Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Sun Group.

Under the PM's decision signed on May 20, the project, invested with VNĐ2.5 trillion (about US$98.81 million), plans to build a fleet of 31 aircraft by 2030.

The project aims to establish a new airline primarily focusing on commercial passenger transport while also offering charter flight services to tourists travelling to tourism and business destinations in Việt Nam and worldwide, particularly renowned islands and dynamic financial hubs.

In particular, Sun PhuQuoc Airways is envisioned with the mission of bringing international visitors to Phú Quốc Island. The addition of a new carrier is also expected to make travel to Phú Quốc more accessible and convenient for Vietnamese travellers.
