The Trung Nam Cà Ná International Seaport in Thuận Nam District, the south-central province of Ninh Thuận, on Wednesday welcomed ESHIP 1, a German-flagged vessel carrying thousands of tonnes of wind turbine components and auxiliary equipment.
According to the port’s management board, ESHIP 1 departed from Portugal, carrying a total of 51 wind turbine blades and over 200 supporting components manufactured by Enercon Group.
The equipment is set to be unloaded and transported to energy project construction sites.
This marks the first time Enercon has shipped equipment to its partners and projects via the seaport.
The arrival of this first wind power equipment shipment signalled the seaport’s infrastructure readiness and its entry into a new phase of development, aligned with Việt Nam’s adjusted National Power Development Plan VIII.
To serve the implementation of the revised national power development plan for 2021–2030 with a vision to 2050, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed the establishment of two inter-regional renewable energy industry and service hubs, one of which will be based in Ninh Thuận.
Accordingly, Trung Nam Cà Ná will continue to be upgraded to handle ultra-heavy cargo and is expected to become a key service gateway for the offshore wind power sector. With a total investment of VNĐ5.6 trillion (US$214.1 million), the port is currently completing Phase 2 of the Cà Ná terminal, aimed at increasing capacity for handling oversized and heavy cargo.
