Campaign launched to celebrate 30 years of US-Vietnam relations
The US Mission to Vietnam has launched the “30 Years of US – Vietnam Relations” campaign to commemorate three decades of diplomatic ties between the United States and Vietnam.

The initiative aims to renew the mission's commitment to further strengthen US-Vietnam bilateral relations and expand cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Over the past 30 years, the US-Vietnam relationship has grown into a powerful partnership to advance shared economic and security goals.
US-Vietnam common interests now span areas as varied as diplomacy, health, education, security, and economic development. The thread tying all of these together is the principle of respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political systems.
“From driving economic growth to expanding educational and cultural exchanges, to deepening security and defence cooperation, the US-Vietnam partnership creates opportunities and sparks innovation, particularly in high-tech fields. As we celebrate 30 years of ties, we look ahead to even greater collaboration and impact. While we have much to be proud of, we must not rest on our laurels and must instead recommit ourselves to creating an even brighter and more prosperous future for our two peoples. The US remains dedicated to supporting a strong, prosperous, independent, and resilient Vietnam,” said US Ambassador Marc E. Knapper.
This year, the campaign highlights the role of youth in shaping the future of US-Vietnam relations, recognising them as the embodiment of the partnership’s success. In March, the mission brought a higher education delegation of 40 leaders from 21 American universities to strengthen academic cooperation with their Vietnamese counterparts. A special youth exchange will also take place later this month, with 14 Vietnamese high school students and two chaperones travelling to the US for three weeks.
"Our partnership has opened doors for youth from both countries to collaborate, learn from one another, and gain new perspectives, preparing the young generation in the US and Vietnam to grow, explore, and thrive in a world shaped by cross-cultural collaboration,” said consul general Susan Burns.
As part of the campaign, the US Mission to Vietnam unveiled the official logo commemorating 30 years of diplomatic relations, inspired by the 25th anniversary design by Vietnamese artist Tran Hoai Duc. The original logo featured the US and Vietnamese flags intertwined as a flying dove, symbolising their shared commitment to peace.
The 30th anniversary campaign’s mascots are built on that spirit, featuring the Eagle and the Lac bird – national symbols representing the US and Vietnam. The Eagle embodies strength, courage, and freedom, while the Lac bird symbolises resilience, beauty, and independence. Together, they represent the enduring and soaring spirit of the US-Vietnam partnership.
To bring the campaign to communities across Vietnam, the mission the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisation are hosting a series of public friendship festivals in multiple cities across Vietnam. These events will feature live music, games, and interactive booths where attendees can explore American culture, STEM education, American English, and exchange opportunities. The first such festival will occur this weekend in Danang on June 22 from 3-9 pm.
As the US and Vietnam mark 30 years of diplomatic relations, the US Mission to Vietnam remains committed to deepening strategic cooperation, advancing mutual interests, and contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity across the region and for the two peoples.
