Cambodia’s insurance industry records 6 pct growth in first 4 months of 2025
Cambodia’s insurance industry registered a gross premium of $129.5 million in the first four months of 2025, up 6 percent from $122.1 million over the same period last year, an Insurance Regulator of Cambodia (IRC)’s report showed on Thursday.
The growth was generated from 18 general insurers, 14 life insurers, seven micro-insurance companies, and one reinsurance firm.
The report stated that the total amount of claims incurred was approximately $30.34 million during the January-April period this year, representing a 39 per cent increase from $21.76 million over the same period last year.
The Southeast Asian country’s insurance industry currently has more than 1 billion dollars in total assets.
IRC’s director general Bou Chanphirou said the insurance sector has been playing a crucial role in supporting the social security system and proactively contributing to national economic development.
He stated that the kingdom’s insurance penetration was 1.17 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024, with an insurance density of $ 22 per person.
“These two indicators illustrate that the Cambodian insurance market has potential room for further growth in the future,” he said.
