The Vietnamese delegation is being led by Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, alongside representatives of different ministries.

On May 19, the two sides discussed a comprehensive approach to resolve issues and accelerate the negotiation process. Discussions revolved around clarifying the contents of the bilateral agreement on trade and each’s country’s current policies in areas of interest.

On the same day, Minister Dien had a meeting with Westinghouse, the world's leading corporation in nuclear power technology. The minister said Vietnam is mulling reviving a nuclear power programme to ensure energy security amid growing electricity demand and unstable renewable energy.

"Vietnam is taking a modern and cautious approach in line with practice. The country has many potential locations to develop nuclear power," the minister added.

"This is the basis for promoting cooperation with international partners such as Westinghouse, including large and small modular reactors. Cooperation in energy development will also be an important driving force to balance bilateral trade," he said.

Margaret Cosentino, vice president of Westinghouse, said, "The corporation would strongly support Vietnam's plan, highlighting the importance of long-term energy cooperation."

The two sides agreed to share information and advance an MoU signing between Westinghouse and Petrovietnam in nuclear power development.
