As part of a working visit to Tokyo, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung and his delegation met with leaders of AEON Group on May 29 to boost investment cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in key areas.

Japan's AEON Group eyes expansion in Vietnam

At the meeting, AEON Group president Akio Yoshida detailed the group’s plans to expand investment in Vietnam, not only in the shopping mall sector, its traditional strength, but also in new areas such as finance, IT, digital transformation, and entertainment.

AEON was established in 1926 and primarily operates in the retail sector with a network of more than 300 subsidiaries and 26 affiliate companies through mergers and acquisitions. To date, the group has developed over 20,000 shopping centres, stores, and supermarkets worldwide. In 2024, the group's revenue stood at $63.2 billion.

The Japanese conglomerate has invested more than $1.5 billion in Vietnam since 2014, developing seven shopping malls, supermarket operations, import and export activities, property management, and entertainment services.

DPM Dung spoke of Vietnam's great appreciation for AEON’s business achievements and its positive contributions to the country’s economic and social development.

"We hope AEON will continue to integrate Vietnam’s strengths into its supply chain, not only for the Japanese market but also globally. We encourage AEON to strengthen cooperation with industry associations and domestic partners to encourage more effective bilateral trade," he said.
