Nestlé Vietnam reaffirms its long-term commitment to Vietnam with additional $75 million investment

As Vietnam is moving into the “era of the nation's rise,” Nestlé Vietnam is committed to accompanying the country towards a sustainable and thriving future with the latest $75 million investment in its Nestlé Tri An factory in the southern province of Dong Nai.

Vietnam remains a top foreign direct investment (FDI) destination for multinational corporations amidst the global economic uncertainty. The country has lured $25 billion in FDI disbursed in 2024, an increase of 9 per cent on-year. This trend continues into 2025, with registered FDI reaching $11 billion in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 34.7 per cent year-over-year increase. Investors are taking heed of Vietnam’s strong fundamentals, including a fast-growing economy, a large population, a rising middle class, and an increasing disposable income.

Multinational corporations are committed to long-term investment in Vietnam as the country is opening up new opportunities in the “era of the nation's rise”. This era is defined by rapid and sustainable economic development to strengthen Vietnam’s economic power and capacity. To facilitate the goal, Vietnam gives top priority to green and sustainable investments to create long-lasting value for the economy in the long run. This will help the country meet rising sustainability requirements in major markets like the United States and EU.

As a European multinational food and beverage company, Nestlé has pioneered sustainable development in association with business development in Vietnam. Since its inception in 1995, the company has laid the foundation for a sustainable business, which contributes to the thriving community and prospering country. This is reflected in the company’s efforts to create nutritious products to improve the life quality of Vietnamese, raise the value of Vietnamese coffee beans, and protect and regenerate resources for the future generation.

At a ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of Nestlé Vietnam held in Dong Nai province on April 18, Nestlé announced an additional investment of nearly VND1.9 trillion (approximately $75 million) to expand and introduce new technologies at its Nestlé Tri An factory. The move serves as a testament to Nestlé’s commitment to sustainable development and green growth for the sake of Vietnamese and its nation.

The Tri An factory is one of Nestlé's most advanced coffee processing plants worldwide, supplying coffee products to more than 29 countries and territories. It is the only Nestlé factory to produce its complete coffee portfolio including Nescafé, Nescafé Dolce Gusto, Nespresso, Blue Bottle, and Starbucks. The plant is also the largest producer of decaffeinated products for Nestlé globally.

With the new capital injection, the total investment in the Tri An factory for 2024-–2025 will exceed $175 million. This expansion brings Nestlé Vietnam’s cumulative investment in the country to approximately $904 million reaffirming the company's long-term commitment to Vietnam’s economic growth and the development of its coffee industry.

Talking with VIR at the ceremony, Binu Jacob, CEO at Nestlé Vietnam, said that over the past three decades, Nestlé has solidified its presence in Vietnam through strategic investments and a strong commitment to both economic growth and social development.

“The company plays a pivotal role in Vietnam’s coffee industry and continues to expand its footprint in the country through innovation and local engagement,” Jacob said.

He added that Nestlé operates in Vietnam under three key roles. Firstly, it is a major purchaser of green coffee, sourcing a significant share of Vietnam’s total coffee exports. Secondly, the company serves as a highly efficient processor of coffee for international markets, leveraging state-of-the-art technologies. Thirdly, it meets the rising demand of

Vietnam’s burgeoning domestic coffee market, supporting local consumption with a wide array of products. Rather than importing products, the company has prioritised local manufacturing, establishing four factories across the country.

Nestlé’s flagship coffee factory in Vietnam stands as the most efficient of its kind globally, holding the highest green coffee usage (GCU) benchmark in the industry. It boasts unparalleled production diversity, capable of manufacturing a broad spectrum of coffee products for global and domestic markets. This performance is driven by a highly skilled and innovation-ready workforce.

With over 2,300 direct jobs created, Nestlé is consistently recognised among Vietnam’s top 100 corporate taxpayers.

“Beyond economic contributions, the company is a leader in promoting sustainable coffee farming. Its support has helped farmers achieve income increases of 30-150 per cent through improved agricultural practices and crop diversification, particularly on smallholder farms,” Jacob added.

Nestlé’s 30-year journey in Vietnam exemplifies a model of responsible business that blends manufacturing excellence, market leadership, and deep-rooted community support.

“As a key player in Vietnam’s coffee value chain and a committed corporate citizen, Nestlé continues to contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic and social transformation,” he noted.

Also at the ceremony, Nestlé Vietnam was honoured with a Certificate of Merit from Minister of Agriculture and Environment in recognition of its outstanding contributions to the development of Vietnamese agriculture and rural areas.

Nestlé is also recognised as a pioneer in sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing emissions and conserving resources. The company has made design improvements to eliminate unnecessary packaging components, reduce the use of virgin plastics, and replace them with environmentally friendly materials.

Notable initiatives include the use of recycled PE plastic in product packaging and the replacement of single-use plastic straws with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper straws across its ready-to-drink product lines. Another innovation is mono-material packaging in order to facilitate easier recycling.

In manufacturing, the adoption of circular economy principles has enabled all of Nestlé Vietnam’s factories to achieve the “zero waste to landfill” goal since 2015. The company also runs a wide range of communications campaigns to raise awareness and promote behaviour change among consumers, such as the “Say No to Single-Use Plastics” and “Collect and Sort Used Packaging” initiatives.
