Vietnam’s billionaire count reaches 6 again on Forbes global rich list

Nguyen Dang Quang, chairman of Vietnam’s Masan Group, has rejoined Forbes’ list of the world’s richest individuals, bringing the number of Vietnamese billionaires back to six on the latest Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2025 as of February 1.

Quang, who temporarily dropped off the ranking in early January, made a comeback with his net worth rebounding to US$1 billion – the minimum threshold for inclusion.

He now holds the 2,718th position in the global ranking.

He appeared on the list for the first time in 2019 and has frequently moved in and out of the ranking due to fluctuations in his wealth.

With Quang's return, Vietnam's billionaire count in Forbes' latest global ranking has risen back to six as of February 1.

Leading the group is Pham Nhat Vuong, chairman of Vingroup – one of Vietnam's largest private conglomerates – with a net worth of $4.1 billion.

This marks Vuong’s 15th consecutive year as Vietnam’s richest individual in the Forbes rankings.

While his wealth remains unchanged from last month, it has declined by $300 million compared to April 2024.

Following Vuong in terms of wealth are Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, CEO of VietJet Air; Tran Dinh Long, chairman of Hoa Phat Group; Ho Hung Anh, chairman of Techcombank; Tran Ba Duong, chairman of automaker Thaco; and Masan leader Quang.

Thao's net worth currently stands at $2.8 billion, unchanged from January but down $100 million from late 2024.

Long and Anh have each seen a $100 million increase in their fortunes since January, bringing their respective net worths to $2.4 billion and $1.8 billion.

Duong's wealth remains steady at $1.3 billion.

In the latest report, Vuong is now placed 842nd globally, slipping slightly from 839th in early January.

The rankings for Thao, Long, Anh, and Duong are 1,218th (down from 1,215th), 1,414th (up from 1,415th), 1,828th (up from 1,842nd), and 2,430th (down from 2,420th), respectively.

On the global stage, Tesla CEO Elon Musk retains the top spot with a net worth of $421.6 billion. He is followed in order of wealth by Amazon executive chairman Jeff Bezos ($250.1 billion), Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg ($237.9 billion), Oracle CTO Larry Ellison ($213.4 billion), and LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault ($189.2 billion).

The fluctuations in ranking and net worth on the Forbes global rich list highlight wealth volatility, stemming from the stock market and increasing wealth gap.

Vietnam has set an ambitious goal to have at least 10 billionaires and five of Asia’s most influential entrepreneurs by 2030, as outlined in a government resolution issued in May 2024.
