China’s GWM cars to hit Vietnam

Chinese automobile manufacturer Great Wall Motors (GWM) will debut a range of new vehicles in Vietnam spanning several categories, including multi-purpose vehicles (MPV), crossover utility vehicles (CUV), and off-road sport utility vehicles (SUV).

An authorized distributor of GWM products in Vietnam on Wednesday confirmed that a series of new models would soon be available for sale in the country.

These cars are already present in Vietnam, though their official prices have yet to be disclosed.

The initial lineup includes four models – the Wey 80 PHEV, Tank 500 Hybrid, the hybrid and petrol versions of Tank 300, and the Haval M6.

Notably, the Haval Jolion is expected to make its debut in Vietnam at the end of the first quarter.

GWM Wey 80 PHEV

The GWM Wey 80 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid version, is equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged engine, paired with two electric motors, generating 480 horsepower and 762 Nm of torque.

With a 37.96 kWh lithium-ion battery, it offers an all-electric range of up to 140 kilometers.

Measuring 5,045mm in length, 1,960mm in width, and with a 3,085mm wheelbase, the Wey 80 is larger than the Toyota Alphard.

The Wey 80 features a large front grille and fully LED headlights, while its 18-inch chrome alloy wheels complete the premium look.

Inside, the vehicle is all about luxury, offering seven seats, including front seats designed for weightlessness and rear seats boasting advanced features like massage functions, electric adjustment, and heating or cooling.

There are also two large screens and a panoramic sunroof, although the audio system is not from Harman Kardon as seen in other markets like Malaysia and Thailand.

Tank 500 Hybrid

The Tank 500, a luxury SUV, measures 5,078 mm in length, 1,934 mm in width, and 1,905mm in height.

If its price exceeds VND2 billion (US$78,450), it would compete directly with the Ford Explorer and Volkswagen Teramont.

The Tank 500 hybrid boasts a bold front grille and a rear-mounted spare tire, similar to luxury off-road vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class or Land Rover Defender.

Powered by a 2.0L engine combined with an electric motor, the hybrid version of the Tank 500 produces 350 horsepower and 616 Nm of torque.

It also features a nine-speed automatic transmission and 4WD capabilities, along with advanced off-road functions, including 11 terrain modes and electronic locking differentials for both axles.

Tank 300

The Tank 300 will be available in both petrol and hybrid versions in Vietnam.

The petrol version of the Tank 300 comes with a 2.0L turbocharged engine that produces 227 horsepower and 387 Nm of torque.

Meanwhile, the hybrid version (HEV) combines a 2.0L engine generating 240 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque with an electric motor offering an additional 104 horsepower and 268 Nm of torque.

Haval M6

The Haval M6, a compact SUV/CUV, has an overall length of 4,664 mm, width of 1,830 mm and height of 1,729mm, making it similar to its rival vehicles like the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage.

The interior of the vehicle includes a floating central touchscreen, though some of the features in the model available at dealerships are more basic, such as mechanical speedometers and manual seat adjustments.

A notable addition is the electronic parking brake with Auto Hold functionality.

The Haval M6 is powered by a 1.5L turbocharged engine that produces 140 horsepower and 202 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
