Marubeni demonstrates its 3.7MWh Battery Energy Storage System
Japan's Marubeni Corporation, through its wholly owned subsidiary Marubeni Green Power Vietnam Co., Ltd, has commenced a demonstration of its 3.7MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on December 20.

The venture is based on a MoU for a collaboration in the BESS sector in Vietnam, signed between Marubeni and VinES, a subsidiary of Vingroup, last year.
Marubeni will installing and operate the BESS at Vinpearl Resort Nha Trang, owned by a Vingroup subsidiary, using a system developed and manufactured by VinFast Auto Ltd. under the VinFast Energy brand, another Vingroup relevant subsidiary.
As the owner of the BESS, Marubeni will provide a service to reduce electricity costs by charging and discharging the batteries, taking advantage of time-of-use electricity rate differentials. This business model, which uses third-party investment in the BESS of this scale to reduce electricity costs, is one of the first of its kind in Vietnam. Marubeni aims to extend its BESS business by evaluating the economic viability of this service
Satoru Harada, COO of Power Division at Marubeni Corporation, said, "We are delighted to collaborate with Vingroup through the first undertaking at Vinpearl, utilising the BESS manufactured domestically by VinFast Energy. This will also open new business opportunities for Marubeni in the Vietnamese market by providing BESS services to manufacturing and business facilities, helping customers optimise operational costs while driving the green transition through rooftop solar integration as an integrated solution."
BESS is an advanced energy storage solution widely adopted worldwide. This system enables the flexible storage and supply of electricity to meet demand at specific times, making it particularly effective for storing energy during off-peak hours for use during peak hours, thereby alleviating pressure on the power grid.
Additionally, BESS can integrate with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, mitigating the instability of these sources while optimising the amount of renewable energy fed into the system. With its outstanding advantages, BESS plays a critical role in the ongoing energy transition, contributing to the development of a more sustainable and efficient energy system globally.
