In 2024, Cambodia welcomed an impressive 6.24 million air passengers

Cambodia reported a total of 6.24 million air travellers in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 22 percent, an official said on Wednesday.

Sinn Chanserey Vutha, a secretary of state at the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, said that international and domestic airlines operated 58,354 flights to the kingdom’s three international airports last year, a 14 percent increase year over year.

He added that the Southeast Asian country also saw a 40 percent surge in air cargo volume to 77,752 tons last year.

Chanserey Vutha was confident that the Chinese-invested Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, which officially operated in November 2023, would help attract more international airlines and passengers to Cambodia.

“We hope the airport will attract new international airlines to operate direct flights to Siem Reap province, home to the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park,” he told Xinhua.

With a 3,600-meter-long runway, the airport is a 4E-level international airport capable of handling the landing of almost all kinds of aircraft from across the world, he added.
