6 Vietnamese billionaires remain on Forbes list

Vietnam still has six billionaires named on the latest update of the Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2024, which recorded recent changes in their net worth and rankings.

In order of wealth, the Vietnamese billionaires named in the list include Vingroup chairman Pham Nhat Vuong, VietJet Air CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Hoa Phat chairman Tran Dinh Long, Techcombank chairman Ho Hung Anh, Thaco chairman Tran Ba Duong, and Masan chairman Nguyen Dang Quang.

According to the update, these six billionaires held a combined fortune of US$13.3 billion as of December 31, 2024, an increase of $700 million from the end of 2023 but slightly lower than the list released by the U.S. magazine in early April 2024.

Vuong, who is also CEO of electric vehicle maker VinFast, remains the wealthiest individual in Vietnam, with a net worth of $4.1 billion at the end of 2024, down by $300 million from early April 2024.

The decrease was attributed to a nine-percent drop in Vingroup’s stock (VIC) last year.

He now ranks 833rd on the updated global rich list, lower than his 712th place on the list announced in early April 2024, according to Kinh Te & Do Thi (Economics & Urban Affairs) newspaper.

Vuong owns more than 691 million VIC shares, equivalent to 18 percent of Vingroup’s charter capital.

Meanwhile, Long and Quang also saw their net worth fall $200 million from April 2024 to $2.4 billion and $1 billion, respectively, by the end of 2024.

Their respective ranks are 1,401st and 2,697th on the global rich list, compared to their 1,286th and 2,410th rankings in April 2024.

Meanwhile, Duong maintained his fortune at $1.2 billion, ranking 2,432nd compared to his previous ranking of 2,410th.

Thao, who is also vice-chairwoman of HDBank, had a net worth of $2.9 billion at the end of 2024, $100 million higher than that in early April 2024.

She holds the 1,185th position in the global billionaire rankings, two spots higher than in April 2024.

Similarly, Anh increased his wealth by $100 million to reach $1.8 billion by late 2024, ranking 1,834th in the rich list, higher than his 1,851st place in April 2024, according to Kinh Te & Do Thi.

Vietnam aims to have at least 10 billionaires and five of Asia’s most influential entrepreneurs by 2030, as outlined in a government resolution issued in May 2024.

The initiative seeks to bolster the global presence and influence of Vietnamese entrepreneurs.

The Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2024, announced on April 2, 2024, provides a snapshot of wealth based on stock prices and exchange rates as of March 8, 2024, according to Forbes.

As of December 31, 2024, the world’s wealthiest individual is Tesla CEO Elon Musk, with a staggering net worth exceeding $450 billion, Vietnamnet reported.
