Vietnam’s first logistics laboratory established

In an effort to strengthen Vietnam's position as a key logistics hub in Southeast Asia, Vietnam SuperPort (VSP) and the University of Transport Technology (UTT) have cooperated to establish Vietnam's first logistics laboratory.

VSP, UTT, and the Singapore Supply Chain and Logistics Academy (SCALA) signed an MoU on December 17 to set up an advanced laboratory and launch initiatives aimed at preparing workers for Vietnam’s logistics sector.

The signing ceremony, witnessed by Tran Duy Dong, Chairman of Vinh Phuc People's Committee, and Jaya Ratnam, Singapore’s Ambassador to Vietnam, saw the three parties agree to collaborate on initiatives designed to enhance the quality of logistics staff, developing them in a modern, intelligent, and sustainable direction.

Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of VSP, said, "This partnership aligns with VSP’s development strategy and our commitment to enhancing the logistics sector’s capabilities in Vietnam. The logistics laboratory will support innovation initiatives and help stakeholders adapt to global trends and complexities."

Located at UTT’s Vinh Phuc campus, the laboratory will serve as a centre for innovation and digital technology, focusing on the application of AI, digital transformation, and sustainable development. The undertaking will offer training programmes for high-quality personnel and organise industry-specific conferences and seminars. Moreover, it will provide a platform for students, scholars, and industry professionals to conduct scientific research, while offering academic and practical insights to support the development of strategies and policies for Vietnam’s logistics sector.

Nguyen Manh Hung, vice rector of UTT, said, "Logistics is now considered one of the key economic sectors, playing a critical role in Vietnam’s development. With the accelerating pace of international economic integration, the demand for high-quality workers with profound deep expertise and the ability to apply modern technology and innovative thinking has never been more urgent."

"The establishment of the laboratory and the implementation of training initiatives will be of significant importance. Our students will be exposed to the latest technologies and solutions in the logistics industry. At the same time, we will promote research collaboration, technology transfer, and closer ties between the academic and business sectors to meet the new demands of the labour market," Hung added.

During the event, the parties also emphasised the importance of enhancing training programmes through practical learning methods. Experts from VSP and SCALA will participate in teaching courses and workshops hosted by UTT, sharing real-world knowledge and experiences from the industry. UTT students will also have the opportunity to visit and learn from VSP and the Supply Chain CityTM in Singapore, gaining exposure to advanced logistics infrastructure.

VSP will also offer internship opportunities for selected UTT students, including a nine-month talent development course at YCH Group’s headquarters, Singapore's largest home-grown supply chain solutions company, providing valuable hands-on experience.

Enhancing teaching quality is also a key part of this strategic partnership. VSP and SCALA will design a specialised training scheme for UTT faculty, focusing on advanced supply chain models, integrating technology, and promoting sustainable practices.
