Cambodia spent $2.18 billion on oil imports in the first 11 months of 2024
Cambodia’s diesel fuel and petroleum oil imports increased by 11.3 per cent in the first 11 months of 2024, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Commerce on Friday.
The report said the value of diesel fuel and petroleum oil imports totalled $2.18 billion during January-November, up 11.3 per cent year over year.
The Southeast Asian country spent $1.3 billion on diesel fuel and $876 million on petroleum oils in the first 11 months of this year, a year-on-year rise of 10 per cent and 13 per cent, respectively, the report added.
Cambodia currently relies entirely on imports of diesel fuel and petroleum oils, as its seabed’s oil reserves have not yet been exploited.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy has projected that Cambodia’s demand for oil products will increase to 4.8 million tons in 2030, up from 2.8 million tons in 2020.
At gas stations on Friday, regular gasoline costs 3,900 riels ($0.97) per litre, as diesel goes for 3,750 riels ($0.93).
According to the Ministry of Commerce’s report, the kingdom also imported all kinds of vehicles, totally worth nearly 908 million dollars in the first 11 months of 2024, up 7.2 per cent year-on-year.
