Cambodia earns $1.5 billion from rice exports

Cambodia has earned over $1.5 billion from paddy and milled rice exports in the first ten months of this year, a report from the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) showed yesterday.

From January to October of this year, the Kingdom exported 502,029 tonnes of milled rice to 66 foreign countries and territories, earning $376 million, stated the report.

As many as 26 countries in the European Union bought a combined 254,945 tonnes of milled rice from Cambodia worth $196 million, added the reports.

Seven countries in ASEAN bloc imported 100,996 tonnes of milled rice, helping Cambodia earn $66 million, while China bought Cambodia’s rice at 93,197 tonnes worth $61 million.

Other destinations imported a combined 57,891 tonnes milled rice from Cambodia worth $51 million.

Raising production and storage capacity and elevating rice quality standards have boosted Cambodia’s rice exports to international markets, said CRF’s President Chan Sokheang.
