Temporary halt of imports and exports through Lào Cai

Import and export activities at the Kim Thành border gate have been temporarily halted due to rising floodwaters on the Red River affecting both Vietnamese and Chinese border management forces, said Vương Trinh Quốc, Head of the Management Board of Lào Cai.

In the early afternoon of September 9, delegates from the Hà Khẩu Border Post in China engaged in discussions at the Kim Thành border gate in Lào Cai.

Due to the escalating rain and flooding, along with the river levels rising, both parties were urged to temporarily cease import and export activities via the Kim Thành bridge.

By 1.15pm, China had halted all import and export operations.

According to data compiled by the Lào Cai Provincial Economic Zone Management Board, between the morning of September 9 and the suspension at the Kim Thành border gate, Vietnamese businesses successfully exported 143 trucks, while over 40 trucks from Việt Nam remained queued at the border.

On the same day, the Lào Cai Provincial Department of Foreign Affairs communicated with the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board regarding a notification from the Foreign Affairs Office in Hekou, China.

The message indicated a temporary halt in import and export activities through the Lào Cai international road border gate (Hekou) due to a power outage on the Chinese side.

Operations will resume once flood conditions subside and power issues resolved.
