Hanoi district to turn Hoang Cau Lake into culinary hub

Once rehabilitated, the Hoang Cau Lake area is expected to become an attractive new destination for both tourists and local residents, contributing to the city's nighttime economy.

The area around Hoang Cau Lake in Dong Da will be transformed into a culinary commercial district, according to Nguyen Thanh Tung, Vice Chairman of the Dong Da District People's Committee.

It will also be positioned as a destination for night tours and night cuisine, with nearby Mai Anh Tuan Street becoming a culinary street, the vice chairman added.

"The district will make Hoang Cau Lake an entertainment and sightseeing destination," the official said.

The Hoang Cau peninsula, currently home to a plethora of eateries, will have spaces designated for performance stages and the introduction of One Commune One Product (OCOP) items.

The district authority has proposed to the city that Nguyen Van Tuyet Street, adjacent to the lake, be developed into a food sanctuary, similar to Tong Duy Tan Culinary Street in Hanoi's Old Quarter, with 24-hour activities.

The renovation of Hoang Cau Lake will be combined with the restoration of the special national historical site of Dong Da Hillock, a battlefield where national hero Quang Trung defeated the Chinese Qing invaders 300 years ago, including 3D mapping displays and a wide range of night tours.

The district leadership has studied similar models in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as lessons learned from pedestrian streets in Tay Ho, Ba Dinh, and Hai Ba Trung districts in Hanoi, to shape the development of the Hoang Cau Lake area.

According to the district administration, these innovations promise to transform the Hoang Cau Lake area into an appealing new destination for both tourists and local residents, contributing to the city's nighttime economy.

Hanoi's city government plans to add three more pedestrian streets in the city center by 2024, including two in Dong Da District and one in Ba Dinh District, to promote tourism and commercial activities.
