Hosted by Google in collaboration with Tuổi Trẻ newspaper, the full-day workshop, with the participation of over 2,000 students along with educators and businesses, also provided crash courses on practical AI skill sets.

According to speakers, in the last few years, advances in AI have started to power a significant shift in the technological landscape, comparable to the Internet or mobile revolutions. And with tech-savvy youths accounting for 20 per cent of the country's population, Việt Nam has a prime opportunity to fully leverage AI.

The World Economic Forum predicts that AI will create 97 million new jobs by 2025. However, despite the rising demand for AI skills, only half of workers have access to adequate AI training opportunities. As an AI-first technology company, Google has been working on a responsible approach to AI by helping users and society understand AI, its benefits, and, most importantly, build equal access to AI training opportunities.

“The latest research estimates that generative AI could add the equivalent of US$2.6 trillion to $4.4 trillion annually. Việt Nam National AI Strategy 2030 aims to transform Việt Nam into a centre of innovation, developing AI solutions and applications,” said Marc Woo, managing director of Vietnam, Google Asia Pacific.

He also added: "AI is not only changing how businesses are run, but how we define work itself. In Asia-Pacific, AI, together with cloud computing and cybersecurit, is one of the most in-demand, advanced digital skills and has become a powerful advantage for those in the job market. And at Google, we are very committed to ensuring that everybody can benefit from AI, and we believe that skilling is the first step.“

At the event, Google also shared details of all the available free resources for young workers and announced the launch of five-module training courses of Google AI Essentials under Google Career Certificate.

Participants heard from experts in HR services, medical services, and education. They also gained hands-on experience with Google’s latest AI built-in products and joined a casual Fireside Chat ‘Ask Me Anything about AI' with the country's leading tech-forum moderator and social content creators.

"It's remarkable to see such a rapid transformation in the labour market. With AI, the use of this technology has become essential almost as soon as it appeared. We aim to raise awareness of young people as soon as possible," said Trần Xuân Toàn, deputy editor-in-chief of Tuổi Trẻ newspaper.

Lê Văn Quốc Anh, head of the Information Technology faculty at Transport University, said: “Since 2022, the university has begun implementing an AI training programme, but now we realise that we need to equip students with additional AI skills to give them an edge in the job market and in the workforce.”
