Future of Asia is an international gathering where political, economic, and academic leaders from the Asia-Pacific region offer opinions frankly and freely on regional issues and the role of Asia in the world.

The 29th forum, organized by Nikkei Inc., Japan’s largest business media group, wrapped up on Friday.

Deputy PM Khai attended the event and delivered a speech at the forum themed ‘Asian Leadership in an Uncertain World’ at the invitation of Hasebe Tsuyoshi, Nikkei President and CEO.

Over the past three decades, Asia has undergone its ups and downs and thrived strongly, said the Vietnamese official.

To further boost the growth of Asia and promote its role in the future, Deputy PM Khai pinpointed three assurances.

Firstly, Asia should ensure a peaceful and stable environment for cooperation and development, and respect the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

It is vital to ensure that benefits of free trade and investment are distributed widely and equally among countries. Asia needs to reaffirm its commitment to market openness and foster cooperation to maintain a stable and sustainable supply chain.

In addition, Asia should guarantee that common challenges are addressed by embracing international cooperation, multilateralism, inclusiveness, and comprehensiveness.

The three enhancements include enhancing the adaptability and resilience of the economies and businesses, multiplying the effectiveness of resource utilization to bolster new growth engines in green economy and digital economy, and fostering B2B cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and cultural, tourism exchanges, according to Khai.

He underlined that Vietnam has gained positive changes and made great strides in some key fields.

The Vietnamese economy has progressed in both quality and quantity, while the country’s social welfare and fairness are guaranteed.

Furthermore, Vietnam boasts its success in addressing the consequences of war, building post-war diplomatic relations, and engaging in extensive international integration.

Vietnam is entering a new stage of development with a vision of becoming a developed nation by 2045, focusing on three strategic breakthroughs in economic institutions, infrastructure, and human resources, said Khai.

He underscored that Vietnam remains determined to build an independent and self-reliant economy while boosting its fight against negatives, wrongdoings, and violations in an effort to raise trust in the Party and the state among people.

Vietnam is committed to creating favorable conditions for businesses and ensuring their benefits to spur business and production operations in the local market, while working to fulfill its target of cutting gas emissions.

As a member of Asia, Vietnam expects to further promote its role as a good friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the region and the world, he affirmed.
