Vietnam boasts 6 billionaires on Forbes world’s richest list
Vietnam was represented by six billionaires among the 2,781 wealthiest individuals worldwide, as revealed in the 2024 Forbes list of the world's richest people on Tuesday.

Leading these Vietnamese billionaires is Pham Nhat Vuong, chairman of Vingroup, a multifaceted conglomerate, with a net worth of US$4.4 billion.
His assets showed an increase of $0.1 billion, or 2.3 percent, compared to last year, according to the annual Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2024.
Vuong, 55, has been on this list for 12 years and ranks 712th in this year’ list.
He is followed by VietJet Air CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, who is also vice-chairwoman of HDBank, whose net worth rose 27 percent to $2.8 billion from $2.2 billion last year.
Thao stands at 1,187th in the list.
Ranking after Thao, in order of wealth, are chairman of steelmaker Hoa Phat Tran Dinh Long, Techcombank chairman Ho Hung Anh, chairman of automaker Thaco Tran Ba Duong & family, and chairman of retailer Masan Nguyen Dang Quang.
Long saw his net worth reach $2.6 billion this year, up 44 percent from 2023, and Anh, who has appeared six times on the annual list, also saw his wealth jump by $0.2 billion to $1.7 billion.
Meanwhile, both Quang and Duong & family have the same net worth of $1.2 billion this year after a decline of eight percent and 20 percent, respectively.
Long and Anh come at 1,286th and 1,851st, respectively, in the list while Quang and Duong & family hold the same rank at 2,410th.
Duong has been named on the Forbes world’s billionaire list since 2018.
Last year Vietnam also had six billionaires on the list, down from seven in 2022.
The world’ richest person on this year’s Forbes list is Bernard Arnault, French chairman and CEO of LVMH Moët Hennessy - Louis Vuitton, the world’s leading luxury product group, with a net worth of $233 billion.
He is followed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Meta Platforms boss Mark Zuckerberg, and Oracle chairman Larry Ellison, who rank second, third, fourth, and fifth in the list with $195 billion, $194 billion, $177 billion, and $141 billion, respectively.
The Forbes World’s Billionaires List is a snapshot of wealth using stock prices and exchange rates from March 8, 2024, stated Forbes on its website.
This year’s Forbes list has 2,781 billionaires, 141 more than last year and 26 more than the record set in 2021, with their total assets amounting to $14.2 trillion, up $2 trillion from 2023 and $1.1 trillion above the previous record, also set in 2021.
Two-thirds of the list’s members are worth more than a year ago, while only one-fourth are poorer, Forbes said.
The U.S. is the country with the most billionaires with 813 people, followed by China (473) and India (200).
Billionaires around the world have experienced a year of luck with their fortunes continuing "to swell as global stock markets shrug off war, political unrest, and lingering inflation," Forbes commented on its website.
