Vietnamese PM eyes boosting multifaceted cooperation with German tech giant Siemens
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked Germany's Siemens Group to promote cooperation in various fields with Vietnam, including renewable energy development, digital transformation, electric car manufacture, and railway building, at a meeting with the group’s leader.

PM Chinh received Roland Busch, president and CEO of Siemens Group, in Hanoi on Monday on his working visit to Vietnam.
The government chief hailed and congratulated Siemens' achievements in the world and in Vietnam in particular in various spheres including high technology, renewable energy, digital transformation, power - gas, mechanical manufacturing, energy infrastructure development, industrial automation, railways, and healthcare.
To boost the implementation of agreements between the two countries' senior leaders, PM Chinh proposed that Siemens further promote cooperation with Vietnam in hi-tech fields, green transformation, renewable energy development including production of wind power turbines, electric vehicle production, and digital transformation, among others.
He suggested that the German tech giant transfer technologies for Vietnam to develop green energy industries and railway systems, establish a research and development center in Vietnam, and expand collaboration with Vietnam National Innovation Center as well as domestic technology businesses.
Particularly, PM Chinh recommended that the German group should join bidding packages for advanced urban railway systems in Vietnam such as metro line No. 2 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Vietnamese government welcomes foreign direct investment in the country in the spirit of 'harmonious benefits and shared risks' and will continue to improve its relevant institutions and policies to make the investment and business environment more favorable, equitable, secure, stable, and transparent, Chinh told his guest.
He pledged to create favorable conditions for foreign enterprises, including German groups like Siemens, to invest and do long-term, stable, and effective business in Vietnam.
PM Chinh told his guest that the Vietnam - Germany relationship has been developed fruitfully in all aspects after nearly 50 years of their diplomatic relations and more than 10 years of a strategic partnership.
Trade and investment have been given special attention as key cooperation pillars, particularly following the recent visit to Vietnam by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier last month, stated the Vietnamese leader.
CEO Busch highly appreciated the great potential for cooperation between Vietnam and Germany in general and with Siemens in particular.
Since establishing representative offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in 1993, Siemens has cooperated effectively with Vietnam in various fields, especially renewable energy and transportation, he said.
Busch said Siemens, which now operates a factory in Binh Duong Province, wishes to expand cooperation, investment, and business in Vietnam, especially in hi-tech, digital transformation, green transformation, electric car production, and urban and high-speed railways.
The German group’s leader commented that Vietnam has had a very successful transition process and has great development potential, especially with a 100 million-strong market and a young, trained workforce.
He lauded Vietnam's goals in green transformation, climate change response, hi-tech and semiconductor development, and transport and railway infrastructure building.
The CEO emphasized that Siemens is interested in the North-South high-speed railway project and can provide solutions for locomotives, carriages, railway signaling systems, and transfer of technology for manufacturing such carriages, according to the Vietnam Government Portal.
Busch also promised that Siemens would continue to support Vietnam in training human resources and its businesses in reaching out globally.
Siemens, a leading technology conglomerate focused on industry, infrastructure, transport, and healthcare, operates in more than 200 countries with some 320,000 employees, the group said on its website.
The group has provided equipment and solutions for protection and automation of hundreds of 110-220 kV transformer stations and dozens of 550 kV stations in Vietnam, according to the Vietnam Government Portal.
The corporation helped Saigon New Port in Ho Chi Minh City to maximize productivity and reduce ship clearance time through automation and digitalization.
Siemens is also involved in various projects in transport, including those to upgrade and modernize the signal system for Vinh railway station in Nghe An Province, design and supply 16 diesel-fueled locomotives to Vietnam Railways Corporation, set up a lighting system for Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, and provide automatic cargo handling systems for Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Government Portal.
