Specialities fair enhances local trade
With a decade of partnering with businesses and localities, a Vietnam local specialities fair is helping to promote trade and business connections while strengthening the local supply and value chain.
Hanoi Centre for Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion (HPA) held a ceremony on November 22 to open the Vietnam local specialities fair for 2023, aiming to promote trade between different regions.
The event was attended by Le Duc Thinh, director of the Department of Cooperatives and Rural Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Le Viet Nga, deputy director of the Department of Domestic Markets under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as well as representatives from other authorities and organisations.
The fair provided an opportunity for businesses and localities to promote their specialities to local consumers, as well as domestic and foreign tourists. It also serves as a chance for distributors to select supply partners.

Bui Duy Quang, deputy head of the HPA, said that Hanoi People’s Committee has assigned it to coordinate with relevant departments and agencies to organise many trade promotion activities, connecting Hanoi with provinces throughout the country.
“The goal is to promote socioeconomic cooperation between provinces and cities while supporting the promotion of new products, enabling them to join the city’s supply chain,” Quang said.
“The fair has received a positive response over the past 10 years and strong participation from numerous provinces and cities throughout the country. It is a trade link between domestic producers, traders, and the distribution system, including shopping centres, supermarkets, and consumers,” he added.
Taking place until November 26, the fair boasted nearly 300 booths and the involvement of 250 businesses and cooperatives from more than 56 cities and provinces nationwide. It brought together typical products and specialities of localities, including many products protected by geographical indications, and high-quality One Commune, One Product items.
Items included tea cakes made from the hundred-year-old Shan Tuyet tea trees of the northwest region, fragrant Central Highlands coffee beans, Ly Son garlic, Cat Hoa Loc mangoes, Phu Quoc pepper, Ca Mau crab, and many other regional specialities.
As part of the event, there were activities to promote tourist destinations, traditional cultural features, and culinary shows. There were also business and trade connection activities with prominent distributors such as AEON, Lotte, Central Retail, and more.
Dao Duy Hung, a resident in Ha Dong district who visited the event, said, “The regional specialities have good quality, and the prices are especially reasonable. We hope that through this programme, domestic and foreign tourists will know more about the delicious dishes in the regions of Vietnam, thereby introducing and promoting them to the international market.”
The HPA has been working as a regional link for years by hosting a series of similar events, bringing specialities of cities and provinces to the city’s supply chain, thus promoting domestic trade and international cooperation.
Also last week, it organised a seminar connecting investment, trade, and tourism in Hanoi and provinces in the northwest region; a programme to connect and trade between organisations, businesses, and investors in Lao Cai province; and an exhibition space for typical products and goods between Hanoi and provinces in the northwest region.
