Vietnam’s Bac Ninh fosters trade, investment promotion in Switzerland

Over 30 enterprises in Switzerland and several other European nations, such as Austria, Germany and Italy, along with many Swiss trade associations and universities participated in a trade and investment promotion program recently co-held in Switzerland by the Bac Ninh Province People’s Committee and some Swiss units.

A representative of the Swiss-Vienam Business Gateway, one of the co-organizer of the event, said that the program was part of a series of trade and investment promotion activities taking place on the final days of August in Zurich, known as Switzerland’s largest financial and economic hub.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Phung The Long said that the program was aimed at discussing some opportunities and challenges of doing business in Bac Ninh Province, northern Vietnam between the provincial officials and Swiss firms, and European investors to boost trade and investment cooperation, reported Phap Luat (Law) newspaper.

Some firms shared their success in their business operations in Vietnam, mainly in the northern region, thanks to favorable waterway traffic systems.

Among them are Belgium’s DEEP C Industrial Zone Vietnam, which operates in the industrial infrastructure field, and Denmark’s DSV Air & Sea active in logistics.

Jamil Ahmad Mayo, CEO at Hitech Networks, Pakistan’s telecommunications and energy service provider, said that his firm is keen on Bac Ninh Province’s investment attraction model.

Mayo expected to learn more about the province’s investment attraction programs and its incentives for foreign investors.

Some other firms showed their interest in green investment, and anti-climate change infrastructure projects in Bac Ninh and Vietnam.

Bac Ninh Vice Chairman Dao Quang Khai affirmed that the province boasts the proximity to the capital city of Hanoi, thereby tapping an abundance of human resources.

Furthermore, Bac Ninh Province is home to six universities, and 58 colleges and vocational training centers. The province turns out a huge number of skilled workers each year.

The province is working to bolster training, and establish a university village to meet soaring demand for employees.

The official from Bac Ninh Province also introduced industrial infrastructure and the province’s investment attraction plans to foreign investors.

The province plans to attract investors in green investment, supporting industries, clean agriculture, and hi-tech-based projects, said the representative.

Besides, the province expects to attract investment in high-end commercial-service complexes of shopping malls, amusement parks, training centers, and healthcare facilities.

Bac Ninh Province is home to four operational projects invested by three famed Swiss groups, with a total registered capital of US$109.34 million.

These groups include ABB Ltd., an electrical equipment manufacturer; Sika AG, a Swiss multinational specialty chemical company that supplies to the building sector and motor vehicle industry, and Oerlikon Group.
