Factors that make Thanh Xuan Valley catch the eye of InterContinental

Surrounded by mountains, the Thanh Xuan Valley tourist urban area boasts a unique landscape with semi-mountainous terrain deep in the valley.

That is why InterContinental made a splash in the hospitality industry on September 15 when it announced its first valley resort project in Vietnam.

InterContinental Thanh Xuan Valley Resort, which is set to become operational in 2027, is located at the heart of the Thanh Xuan Valley tourist urban area, north of Hanoi.

The resort will be situated near Dai Lai Lake, less than a 60-minute drive from the downtown of Hanoi. It boasts easy access to the capital region, which is an important strategic position in industrial and commercial tourism development.

The resort is nestled inside a 170-hectare complex that includes a high-end residential area, a park, a 10-kilometre trekking route, a zipline among the pine forest, a bustling downtown, and healthcare and education amenities. With convenient access to on-site amenities, InterContinental Thanh Xuan Valley Resort is qualified as a truly rare destination resort in the northern region.

However, InterContinental chose the Thanh Xuan Valley tourist urban area for its rare natural landscape. As seen on satellite images, this entire area is located on semi-mountainous terrain, deep in the valley, and surrounded by mountains.

Surrounding the resort are 80 hectares of pine forest more than 50 years old, 8 freshwater lakes, natural streams, and valley terrain, which are kept intact. It is known that this unique terrain has inspired InterContinental experts and WATG design consultancy to come up with the idea of the tree-top villa model.

In addition, this area possesses rich vegetation with many types of flower plants, such as azalea, begonia, banyan, and orchid. The construction density of the resort and the entire Thanh Xuan Valley urban area will be maintained at 15 per cent, which is below the average level of 5-star resorts.

Once put into operation, InterContinental Thanh Xuan Valley Resort is expected to not only bring a breath of fresh air but also change the concept of living and experience for customers who cherish the value of nature, lifestyle, and community.

This venture is just the latest in a long line of fascinating concepts for the company.

The InterContinental brand, from IHG® Hotels & Resorts, has reinforced its position and reputation with its high-class accommodation facilities and services, which are modern but still imbued with local culture.

What makes InterContinental different is this brand's choice of destination, according to Paul Cunningham, senior director of operations in Southeast Asia and Korea at IHG® Hotels & Resorts.

“Each InterContinental location is a unique destination with its own space and unique styles, from historical to contemporary symbols in cities. The locations that catch the eye of InterContinental's not only possess prime locations but also have many other unique values such as rare terrain, long history, and inspiring cultural stories."

For example, InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort is situated on the southernmost tip of Raa Atoll, near Baa Atoll, one of the Maldives' five most beautiful beaches. The resort is one of the iconic luxury projects of InterContinental, and is home to one of the largest groups of coral reefs in the Indian Ocean, famous for its diverse marine life.

Pushing the creative boundaries, InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland is the world's first underground hotel. It is built into the cliffs of an abandoned quarry exploited during World War II. The hotel has 16 underground floors and two underwater floors. InterContinental brings unprecedented adventure travel experiences such as bungee jumping from the 88-metre cliff or a journey to discover nature at Sheshan National Forest Park.

nterContinental not only favours coastal cities and paradise islands but also shows special attention to green destinations, where urban tourists can freely connect with the natural ecosystem. In Thailand, after its presence in Phuket, Pattaya, and Koh Samui, InterContinental has added InterContinental Khao Yai Resort to its portfolio.

The resort is nestled in an ancient mountain range next to Khao Yai National Park, which has a long history and is home to a wide range of wild animals. Alongside the tailored natural exploration activities, InterContinental also offers famous local specialities harvested from the on-site farm, such as grapes, golden dragon fruit, and wild honey.
