The project is worth more than US$1.3 billion, which is the largest LNG terminal warehouse project in Việt Nam at present and is carried out by the joint venture between PetroVietnam Gas and AES Corporation.

Located in Sơn Mỹ 1 Industry, Sơn Mỹ Commune, Bình Thuận Province, it is expected to be finished and put online in 2027, delivering 3.6 million tonnes of LNG per year in the first phase and 6 million tonnes in the second phase.

The Sơn Mỹ terminal is a major oil and gas project, aiming to serve Sơn Mỹ 1 and Sơn Mỹ 2 gas power plants and turn Bình Thuận into a centre for national energy.

The province has become one of Viet Nam’s major energy centres. Currently, it has 48 power plants, including hydroelectricity, coal-fired power, wind power, and solar power, that generate commercial power with a total capacity of 6,794 MW.
