Green growth to top Ho Chi Minh City economic forum agenda in September

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee will hold the fourth municipal economic forum under the theme 'Green Growth - The Journey to Zero Emissions' from September 13 to 17, centering on a green and circular economy.

The annual event is aimed at pooling suggestions of local and international experts in socio-economic sectors as well as key plans and programs of the city.

The forum organizer reported on Monday that many leaders of large Vietnamese cities and governmental officials of some other countries have confirmed their attendance.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and head of the Party Central Committee's Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh will also attend the event.

As for foreign guests, the forum will receive a South Korean Deputy Minister of Environment, leaders of Germany’s Leipzig City and China’s Shanghai City, and Belgium's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Vietnamese diplomatic agencies abroad and diplomatic agencies of other countries in Vietnam have introduced 80 foreign experts and 60 international enterprises in green growth and circular economy to the organizer.

The forum will feature an exhibition of enterprises’ projects, products, services, and ideas implemented with green and sustainable development models, and a ceremony to honor companies applying green growth solutions on Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1.

A highlight of the forum will be the CEO 100 Tea Connect (T100) program, which will be a meeting between the city leaders and 100 CEOs from around the world.

The city’s leaders will provide an insight into its socio-economic performance, key projects, and strategies for the coming time.

Ho Chi Minh City will seek cooperation with large groups, especially in the green and circular economy.

The program will be held based on Vietnam’s traditional tea parties to promote stories about tea, the art of drinking tea, and tea products meeting the green standards of Vietnam to domestic and international guests.

The T100 idea is inspired by the 600 CEO model of the World Economic Forum, Le Truong Duy, apprentice deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of External Relations, said, adding that the meeting will create an opportunity for leaders of large enterprises in the world to propose solutions to the city’s sustainable economic development.

Ho Chi Minh City held the first two economic forums in 2018 and 2019 and the third in 2022 after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
