Number of int’l visitors to Vietnam in January-April exceeds 2022 figure

Vietnam welcomed over 3.68 million foreign travelers in the first four months of the year, surpassing the figure in 2022, at 3.66 million, according to the General Statistics Office.

The number of international tourists coming to Vietnam reached 984,100 in April alone, up 9.9 percent month on month.

Chinese tourists contributed significantly to Vietnam’s tourism recovery in the four-month period.

In particular, 112,000 Chinese travelers visited Vietnam last month, surging 61.5 percent over March, the best growth among source markets.

However, South Korea took the lead in the number of visitors to Vietnam with one million in the four months.

It was followed by the U.S. with 263,000 and China with 252,000 tourists.

Other markets also posted a positive growth rate, such as Taiwan with 47.6 percent, Cambodia with 55.6 percent, and Laos with 35.5 percent.

Vietnam hopes to serve eight million foreign visitors this year.

During the Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1) holiday this year, localities welcomed many groups of tourists.

The Malta-flagged Azamara Quest with over 1,000 German travelers on board arrived at the Tien Sa Port in Da Nang City in central Vietnam on Sunday before visiting Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday and Wednesday.

These tourists also visited the Mekong Delta, in addition to relic sites in the central region and Ho Chi Minh City.

Saigontourist, which served this tourist group, welcomed 10 groups of over 5,000 international travelers, mainly from Germany, France, and Asian markets, to Vietnam during the five-day holiday, said Doan Thi Thanh Tra, director of marketing and communications at the company.

Mein Schiff 5, another cruise ship from Malta, on Saturday docked at the Ha Long Port in northern Quang Ninh Province, bringing 3,000 German tourists to visit Ha Long Bay, Hai Phong, and Hanoi.

In Ho Chi Minh City, many tourists visited the municipal People’s Committee building during the holiday.

Among the tourists visiting the city hall, there were many foreigners, said Tran Thi Bao Thu, director of marketing and communications at Vietluxtour.

“A group of Filipino tourists said they were honored to be the first foreign tourists to visit the city hall, saying that it was imposing and special. They were impressed by the history and culture of the city,” Thu recounted.

Nguyen Minh Man, head of communications and marketing at TST Tourist Company, said customers were also satisfied with and excited by his company’s tours to the city hall.

“The demand of customers, including both domestic and international guests, is huge,” Man added.
