Nestlé boosts exports of high-value products made in Vietnam
Nestlé Vietnam continues to strengthen production and diversify export products to help Vietnam become a centre of global food and beverage (F&B) supply. The company expects its export activities to achieve double-digit growth in 2023.
Nestlé Vietnam has announced an additional investment of $132 million in 2021. The company aims to double its processing capacity of high-quality coffee lines, serving the local market and exporting its products to more than 25 countries, including demanding markets like Europe, Japan, and the United States.
The company is expanding production lines of high-quality coffee products such as Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsule coffee and freeze-dried coffee. Among them, some of the coffee products, which are only imported by Europe, are now first produced in Vietnam.
In addition to investing in technology, Nestlé Vietnam has accelerated research and development activities, which diversifies product portfolio and creates added value to access difficult markets. For example, with the Japanese market, before 2020, Nestlé Vietnam mainly exported raw instant coffee, raw decaf coffee beans (coffee beans are separated caffeine). However, from 2020 to 2023, products exported to this market were diversified, including Maggi soy sauce, Milo barley drinks, freeze-dried coffee, Nestea lemon tea, and Nescafe instant coffee 3-in-1.
The company also develops products to meet the requirements of each market to increase export value and meet strict standards for quality and food safety for different customer groups, such as halal products for Muslims, or kosher products for Jewish people. The company also designs recycled packaging for its products.
Nguyen Tran Hoang Yen, director of Nestlé Vietnam Supply Chain said, "With a view to ensure sustainable export and increase the value of the ‘Made in Vietnam’ products, we constantly invest in technology, the value chain, and product diversification to meet the requirements of quality and the environment, as well as the separate requirements of strict markets. This year, the company expects its exports to maintain positive growth."
Sustainable and responsible purchasing is one of the business criteria of Nestlé Group. Currently, Nestlé Vietnam has responsibly sourced coffee beans which meet standards, such as international 4C criteria, Rainforest Alliance certificate standards, organic certification and more,
Since 2011, Nestlé has accompanied coffee farmers in the Central Highlands region with a view to completing the value chain, from farmers to consumers. This helps control and improve product quality, as well as ensure environmental sustainability.
By promoting deep processing activities and investments in improving product value, the company has contributed to increasing the value of Vietnam’s agricultural products. In 2022, Nestlé Vietnam increased its exports by about 7 per cent in volume and 30 per cent in value. Currently, the company's products are exported to more than 30 markets globally.
