$17 mn Danish factory starts operation in Vietnam’s southern province
A 100 percent Danish-invested sportswear factory, with an investment of US$17 million, was inaugurated in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of An Giang on Friday, becoming the third Danish facility of this kind in the Southeast Asian country.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Binh Hoa Industrial Park in Chau Thanh District on Friday by Spectre An Giang Garment Technologies Co., Ltd., which is totally owned by Denmark’s Spectre Real Estate A/S, a maker of outdoor sports apparel for export to Europe, North America, and Japan.
The factory is the first one of the Danish investor in An Giang and the third in Vietnam, following the two others in the northern provinces of Thai Binh and Nam Dinh.
The new factory, construction of which began in November 2021 on an area of 38,000 square meters in the park, is expected to produce around two million products a year and generate 2,500 jobs.
By using solar energy and with an advance design, the plant is expected to reduce emissions by some 1,600 tons of carbon dioxide, one of the main greenhouse gases, annually.
Notably, the factory, built based on high cooperate social responsibility (CSR) standards, has been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certificate, the second highest level of the U.S. Green Building Council’s rating system.
Speaking at the ceremony, Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Nicolai Prytz said the new Spectre factory in An Giang is a clear proof of the strong upward trend of Denmark’s direct investment flows into Vietnam.
The project also shows the importance of the Vietnamese government’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the attraction of quality investment into Vietnam, the ambassador said, adding that all sustainable production projects require the use of green energy in operation.
Currently, Denmark is one of the largest European investing countries in Vietnam.
In addition to Spectre, another Danish investor, Lego Group, has planned to invest $1 billion to build a factory in southern Binh Duong Province within this year.
With the upcoming Vietnam visit of Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, along with a delegation of 36 Danish businesses, scheduled in early November, more investments by Danish investors are expected to be made in the country in the coming time.
