Over 1.3 million visitors bring Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi $170.4mn during four-day holiday
Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi earned more than VND2.7 trillion (US$115 million) and about VND1.3 trillion ($55.4 million) from tourism activities and services in the four-day holiday marking Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) from September 1 to Sunday, according to the two corresponding municipal departments of tourism.
The southern metropolis welcomed around 920,000 visitors, including 32,484 foreigners, while the Vietnamese capital city received 422,700.
In Ho Chi Minh City, 130,000 people stayed over, prompting 3-5-star hotels to report an average occupancy rate of 75 percent.
Suoi Tien Theme Park in Thu Duc City served about 40,000-50,000 visitors per day on September 2 and 3.
The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens in District 1 and Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11 attracted more than 25,000 and 20,000 visitors on Saturday, respectively.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, international visitors, especially those on meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) tours, remain in the focus of the agency’s post-pandemic recovery plans.
The city aims to receive 3.5 million international visitors this year.
In the first eight months of 2022, more than 16.77 million domestic tourists visited the city, reaching 83.9 percent of the year’s plan.
The city’s total tourism revenue during the January-August period is estimated at VND74.5 trillion ($3.16 billion), hitting 93 percent of this year’s target.
On September 1 and 2 alone, Hanoi drew more than 240,000 people, including 230,000 domestic visitors and 12,200 international arrivals.
Notably, up to 76,450 people thronged Thu Le Park in Ba Dinh District.
On the outskirts of Hanoi, Duong Lam Village and the Son Tay ancient citadel drew some 5,000 visitors, while 8,000 people flocked to the Bat Trang pottery village.
In outlying Ba Vi District, the Ao Vua tourist area welcomed 17,160 visitors and the Khoang Xanh - Suoi Tien tourist area received 15,930 visitors.
The Hanoi Department of Tourism also coordinated with the Management Board of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to present more than 20,000 gifts to tourists visiting the venue during the holiday.
