Ba Ria-Vung Tau honors rural products

The quality of rural industrial products made in the southeastern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau has improved greatly as a result of the emphasis placed on honoring their excellence, carving out a growing market niche. Ba Ria-Vung Tau was ranked among the country’s four top provinces in terms of the number of national-level outstanding rural industrial products in 2021 with seven products.

The provincial department of industry and trade held five events over the past decade honoring outstanding rural industrial products, awarding district-level and provincial-level recognition to 306 and 140 products, respectively.

In the 2012-2021 period, 36 projects funded by industry promotion programs were implemented at a total cost of VND6.381 billion, while 25 manufacturers of outstanding rural industrial products received help in building e-commerce websites. The industry promotion funds helped rural producers attend trade fairs and exhibitions of the industry and trade sector, join supply-demand connections with provinces and cities nationwide, and develop branding.

According to the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province Department of Industry and Trade, the number of candidates participating in these award events has increased regularly, becoming more diverse, and investment has been made in product packaging, design and origin traceability, significantly enhancing product value. Products include a wide array, from seafood and agricultural commodities, to handicrafts and mechanical tools.

The provincial industry promotion sector plans to hold an additional five district and provincial-level product honoring events, and participate in regional-level and four national-level ones. The province has set a target of provincial, regional and national-level recognition for 175, 90 and 40 products, respectively.

The provincial department of industry and trade has proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Agency for Regional Industry and Trade (ARIT) add detailed criteria for outstanding rural industrial product assessment, provide regular training for officials in charge of such assessment, and consider new policies for the development of this field.

Over the past 10 years, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province has focused on assessing and honoring outstanding rural industrial products, resulting in encouraging achievements that contribute to provincial industrial development.
