Vietnam seeks to develop digital ecosystem for industry promotion

While digital technology is increasingly important to production and trading activities of rural industrial enterprises, it is necessary to build a digital ecosystem for industry promotion.

Rural industry rises to Covid-19 challenges

In 2021, the capital Hanoi was heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, according to Tran Thi Phuong Lan, Acting Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, most industrial enterprises in the city’s rural areas fulfilled orders, especially export orders, an achievement significantly due to efficient industry promotion. In 2021, Hanoi’s industry promotion sector organized training courses updating rural industrial enterprises on new product design trends, provided market information for enterprises, and assisted businesses in branding, business connectivity, and production and domestic sales development. The capital became an exemplary locality in terms of supporting rural industrial enterprises to overcome pandemic challenges.

At the recent fourth national conference on industry promotion, honoring national-level outstanding rural industrial products, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan assessed that despite the prolonged complicated Covid-19 pandemic, rural industry contributed to the country’s industrial growth.

Through regional, local and business connectivity, industry promotion helps improve the stability of the value chain in rural area production industries. In addition, many advanced technologies were applied to production, adding value to industrial and handicraft products.

Digital transformation

Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said open policies and application of information technology (IT) will likely help better the efficiency of industry promotion.

Tran Thi Phuong Lan, Acting Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade should oversee digital transformation of rural industrial establishments and craft villages to ensure efficient industry promotion management and operation. She added that management functions of the industry and trade and agriculture and rural development sectors must be clarified in order to avoid overlapping management and promote efficiency.

Pham Van Hoa, Director of the Nghe An Province Department of Industry and Trade, proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade issue more appropriate policies to facilitate industry promotion in compliance with the ongoing digitalization trend.

Nguyen Toan Thang, Director of Industrial Promotion Center Region 1 (IPC1), Agency for Regional Industry and Trade, said close guidance from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and smooth coordination among localities will help build a consistent industry promotion ecosystem embracing communication, administration, business connectivity, production and sales activities.

Although the 2021 allocation for national industry promotion program was half of that for 2020, the program helped rural industrial enterprises procure production equipment and raw materials.
