Flexibility in waste treatment

The Vinacomin-Mao Khe Coal Company has ensured compliance with state laws and regulations on environmental protection of Vinacomin by applying eco-friendly technologies. For example, all kilns now use ZHF/1600/2400 frames to replace single hydraulic props and wood, reducing the amount of wood used in the kilns that contributes to the protection of forests and the prevention of forest degradation. The company has established a steering committee for environmental sanitation, directing production units to regularly inspect and sanitize the environment. The committee meets monthly to evaluate the results, take remedial measures and award excellent units.

The company has also ensured strict compliance with the regulations on collection and management of industrial waste. The company has collected and classified hazardous waste at the source and then stored it separately in warehouses at production units. For domestic waste, the company has signed a contract with the Hai Yen Company Limited to collect and treat it in accordance with the regulations. The company has also used excavated soil and rock to level the surface of subsidence areas during the project implementation process, transporting the rest to the company’s dumps.

To minimize dust generated in coal processing and screening areas, open-pit mines and dumps, the company has installed misting systems and anti-dust nets.

Flood prevention

The company has invested in renovating and upgrading roads from the Non Dong guard station to Ben Can port and from the national railway in the Vinh Xuan area to Non Dong Pagoda, facilitating movement of employees and easing traffic congestion.

The company has also invested in building a pipe conveyor belt to transport coal from screening areas to Ben Can port as well as a conveyor belt to supply coal to the Binh Khe Thermal Power Plant, contributing to environmental protection. In addition, the company has always implemented measures to protect the environment during the production process.

The company has built water drainage works to deal with flooding. Dams to handle flooding and embankments on both sides of the Binh Minh and Van Loi streams were built, contributing to safety of people living in downstream areas. The company annually cooperates with local authorities to dredge the Cau Lim and Van Loi streams to ensure water drainage in the rainy and stormy season.

The company has invested in building five wastewater treatment stations, including two underground ones with total capacity of 1,800cu.m per hour, and three domestic wastewater treatment stations with total capacity of 555cu.m per day. Before being discharged into the surrounding environment, all wastewater generated in production is collected and treated in accordance with the regulations.
