Over 420K tourists logged in first two days of Pchum Ben holiday

On the second day of the October 5-7 Pchum Ben public holiday, more than 270,000 people travelled to different tourist attractions across the country.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, this included nearly 2,000 expatriates, bringing the total number of visitors to over 420,000 in the first two days of the holiday. On the first day, nearly 150,000 tourists, both locals and expats, were recorded.

“The number of domestic tourists surged sharply across the country, especially at the popular coastal provinces of Kampot, Kep and Preah Sihanouk, followed by Pursat, Battambang, Siem Reap, Kampong Speu, and Kampong Cham,” the ministry said.

The ministry said authorities had disseminated Covid-19 guidelines to visitors and vendors at many resorts – especially on the three dos and three don’ts and standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the ministry – to remind the public of serious risks associated with overcrowded gatherings.

The ministry noted, however, that there were no major problems concerning security, safety, public order, service charges, food prices and hygiene as authorities had been deployed to most places for timely intervention.
