Telecoms ministry rolls out e-registration system

The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications on September 3 launched a national e-Registration System for business operations in the postal and telecoms sectors.

The system will make it easier and faster for operators and business owners to apply for permits, certificates or licences to conduct business operations in the relevant fields, the ministry said in a statement.

It went on to say that the system is in step with the Royal Government’s vision of building a vibrant digital economy and society.

Building a digital government is a priority to stimulate the ongoing digital transformation, and a process concentrated on leveraging digital technology to strengthen public services, as a core to enhance investment and socio-economic development, it underlined.

Sok Channda, CEO of Angkor Data Communication Group Co Ltd (MekongNet), an internet service provider (ISP), contended that things “would be easier because everything will be done online”, without the trouble of the in-person formalities involved in the registration process.

Suo Vireak, CEO of Virak Buntham Express, a passenger and express delivery service provider, argued that the system would trim costs and save time for business owners in the sector.

He told The Post: “As technology advances, the more time and money it will save us. The launch of an online business application system bodes well for every business.

“Historically, it had been cumbersome for us to [physically] go and put up with the registration process, we wasted time and the costs were high, so now that the ministry has put this system into use, things should be more hassle-free for us,” he said.

Operators and business owners can apply through the website service.mptc.gov.kh, or scan the QR Code on the statement to download the e-Registration Guide book.

The ministry invited users to submit feedback to ensure the effectiveness of the system.
