PNJ shrugs off COVID, profit zooms 41.8 per cent

Despite the worsening COVID-19 outbreak, PNJ’s net revenues and profit after tax in the first seven months of the year went up by 33.9 per cent and 41.8 per cent year-on-year to VND12.13 trillion (US$513.1 million) and VND704 billion ($30.8 million).

Retail and wholesale sales rose by 32.4 per cent and 13.8 per cent, and sales of gold bars increased by 50.1 per cent.

The encouraging results have been thanks to efforts to diversify sales channels, sustain online delivery but also operate stores that are not affected by social distancing in some localities outside of HCM City.

The company has been a pioneer in contributing to the fight against the pandemic.

PNJ has joined hands with the HCM City Department of Industry and Trade, the Association of High-Quality Vietnamese Goods Producers and others to open a number of charity stores dubbed ‘zero dong mini supermarkets’ in HCM City, Ha Noi, Da Nang, and Can Tho cities and Binh Duong, An Giang and Dak Lak provinces to donate groceries and foods to needy people.

The organisers of the charity have also visited and given gifts to 6,000 frontline workers at 19 field hospitals in HCM City and gifts to 1,000 doctors and their families infected by COVID.
