Biochar products made from sawdust by the TA Green Energy Import Export and Trading Production Co., Ltd. (TA Green Energy) reduce environmental pollution and demonstrate the creativity of the Vietnamese startup community.
Using wood industry waste
Given the urgent need to develop green raw materials and fuels in order to reduce environmental pollution, TA Green Energy has researched and launched biochar products made of sawdust - a by-product in wood production and the processing industry. Biochar, charcoal that is produced by pyrolysis of biomass in the absence of oxygen, is non-polluting. It has long burning time and very high heat, and practical application.

Director of the company Doan Viet Anh explained that agricultural-forestry products and wood sawing and chopping in craft villages produce tremendous amounts of waste. The forest product processing industry also produces thousands of cubic meters of scrap wood. The branches, tops and thousands of tonnes of sawdust are then burned, polluting the living environment, not to mention millions of cubic meters of low quality acacia and oval trees that are not used, causing waste of natural resources. These scraps should be used to make biochar for the benefit of the community, the ecological environment and society, Anh said.
The demand for biochar in Vietnam is high, currently around 100,000 tonnes annually, and growing. Global demand for the biomass is also growing and being encouraged for use by many green energy organizations.
TA Green Energy supplies its biochar products both domestically and to markets in Australia, the United States, the Republic of Korea, and the Middle East.
Focusing on e-commerce
In order to reach more customers given the complicated Covid-19 context, with direct exports facing many difficulties, TA Green Energy plans to bring its products onto e-commerce trading floors. This is not an easy task, especially for small-sized businesses that lack experience in opening booths, designing logos and introducing products on e-commerce floors.

Responding to the needs of small and medium-sized firms, and of TA Green Energy in particular, the Newspaper of Industry and Trade has connected innovative startups with e-commerce platforms through a cooperation agreement between the Procom Vietnam Corporation and various startups to export products on platforms like Alibaba and ECVN.
The Newspaper of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam E-commerce and Information Technology Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the National Agency for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Development under the Ministry of Science and Technology recently held a seminar titled “Promoting successful digital transformation of innovative startups on e-commerce platforms”. TA Green Energy leaders who participated in the seminar expect it will help its products reach more consumers worldwide.
Vietnam has more than 300 wood processing craft villages and dozens of clustered wood material zones in the Red River Delta. The amount of wood waste discharged from these craft villages is very large, mainly wood chips, sawdust, and wood shavings. TA Green Energy has made good use of these materials to produce biochar products. |
