Hai Duong angles to boost lychee exports

The Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and Hai Duong People’s Committee today jointly held a conference to promote the exports of Thanh Ha lychee products and other distinct agricultural products of the northern province.

The event was organised aiming to accelerate connections between product suppliers and potential importers across the world. These include businesses from the United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea, Singapore, and China, among others.

According to the organising board, boosting the sale of agricultural products is growing necessary as COVID-19 has hampered the export of agricultural articles. In addition, the efficiency of a string of free trade agreements (FTAs) such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the EU-Vietnam FTA, Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the UK-Vietnam FTA (UKVFTA) are also presenting great opportunities through tax incentives for ’ suppliers to better approach global importers.

Thanh Ha district (Hai Duong province) is well-known for its lychee. In addition to the tax advantages, the FTAs also pose diverse challenges for local suppliers, especially with strict quality standards regarding packaging design and nutrient value.

As of 2021, the province had 9,186 hectares of plantation areas which have produced fruits reaching VietGAP quality standards. Of this, 1,000ha held VietGAP licences, including 50ha with GlobalGAP standards.

A string of events will be organised to promote the online sales of litchee products. Those include the kick-off ceremony introducing litchee and other Hai Duong agricultural products on e-commerce platforms, and the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement to promote Hai Duong agricultural products on the e-commerce platforms between the Vietnam Trade Promotion Department, Hai Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hai Duong, e-commerce operators like Lazada, Sendo, Voso (Viettel Post), Postmart (Vietnam Post), and Hai Duong lychee suppliers and local exporters.
