Electronics chains locked in expansion race
Small and big electronics chains in Vietnam are quickly expanding their operations as the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic increases demand for mobile devices.

Smartphone chain Di Dong Viet in HCMC has opened two new outlets since the beginning of the year and is set to open another in the neighboring province of Dong Nai soon. It now has 18 outlets, apart from 11 partner stores with network operator MobiFone.
Its competitor ShopDunk, which sells Apple products, has increased the number of outlets by seven to 19 so far this year, and is set to open more in Hanoi and HCMC this quarter.
A smaller retailer, ThinkPro, which opened its first outlet in HCMC in January, is looking to open another one in the city and two in Hanoi.
Leading retailer Mobile World this month began allowing small electronic retailers to be part of its chain, earning commissions of 5-20 percent per product. The company will deliver its products to the shop for free.
"There are 30,000 independent electronic stores nationwide and we want to partner with them to expand our operation," said Mobile World chairman Doan Van Hieu Em.
The chain has more than 2,500 outlets nationwide.
Another major retailer, FPT Shop, launched 23 new laptop centers on April 23. The chain has 690 outlets nationwide.
It saw laptop sales rising 60 percent last year from 2019 and plans to focus on this segment this year, especially gaming laptops.
