Thai fair shows off 60 Cambodian products
The Cambodian embassy in Bangkok said it has helped bring more than 60 Cambodian products to showcase at the 54th Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar now being held in the Thai capital to raise money to support the royal family’s humanitarian work.
Held under the theme Shop the World at the Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar from March 27-29 on the fifth floor of Bangkok’s Siam Paragon Mall, the exhibition features booths of products from 55 countries and is presided over by Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
The embassy noted that all proceeds from the event will be used to purchase medical equipment for hospitals and health care centres in remote areas of Thailand, to help the poor, to treat cleft lip and limb deformities, and provide glasses for students in rural regions.
“To contribute to the promotion of the economy, diplomacy, trade, investment, tourism and culture, the [embassy] has brought more than 60 Cambodian products to be displayed and sold at this event,” it said, adding that these include foods, handicrafts and cosmetics.
This year’s will be the first iteration of the event held in-person and virtually, as is the trend amid the Covid-19 pandemic, according to an announcement from the event’s organisers.
In-person patrons can participate in activities to win prizes and souvenirs, or enjoy performances, it said, inviting the general public to its live stream on dpcredcrossbazaar.com.
Federation of Associations for Small and Medium Enterprises of Cambodia (Fasmec) president Te Taingpor told The Post that the event hosted about 40 of his members’ products.
In addition to participation in humanitarian efforts, the event also provides a platform to widely promote Cambodian products, he said.
“Every year that we’ve taken part at this event we’ve seen Cambodian products garner tonnes of support because they are of a level quality that conforms to ISO standards,” Taingpor said.
The Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar was first held in 1967 and is now popular among Thais and international tourists.
Its 53rd iteration held last year featured products from 59 countries, or four more than this year’s event.
