Leaders of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on October 30 had a working session with a delegation from the British Consulate General led by Consul General Emily Hamblin.

During the working session, the two sides discussed economic development and voiced their hope to enhance bilateral cooperation in the spheres of energy, manufacturing and other industrial sectors, especially those using high technology such as aviation and automobiles.

Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee Vo Thi Hong Anh said as the UK boasts strengths in fields meeting Can Tho’s demand for development, the city wants to call for further investment in processing and supporting industries, particularly at the Can Tho Information Technology Centre, pning 20.03 ha in Hung Thanh ward of Cai Rang district.

For her part, Hamblin highly evaluated the remarkable economic development and potential for growth of Can Tho city as a major hub of the Mekong Delta region.

Over the recent past, the UK has invested in the city through foreign direct investment projects totalling more than 48 million USD in waterway transport, entertainment and restaurant services, education and hotels, and more, she said.

However, the diplomat noted that the figure remains modest compared to the two sides’ economic potential.
