USTDA develops strategies for digital, energy and transportation for Indo-Pacific
At the framework of Indo-Pacific Business Forum 2020, the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) announced its strategy to expand and integrate its 2021 digital infrastructure, energy, and transportation portfolios across the Indo-Pacific region.

“Some of the world’s most dynamic and emerging digital ecosystems are located in the Indo-Pacific region, and this presents extraordinary partnership opportunities for US industry,” said Todd Abrajano, the USTDA’s chief operating officer and head of agency. “We anticipate growing an ICT sector portfolio that will enable our Indo-Pacific partners to strengthen the delivery of essential public services and transform how the region’s consumers interact digitally.”
The USTDA’s digital strategy for 2021 includes the agency’s full range of project preparation and partnership-building activities to provide the Indo-Pacific region extensive access to the most innovative US-based ICT solutions and expertise.
The agency also announced the expansion of regional support for 5G deployment and the use of data analytics to support urban planning, smart cities, and smart grids, as well as cybersecurity and healthcare. Under its Global Infrastructure Resilience Initiative, the USTDA will also fund ICT activities that prioritise resiliency into their design and implementation.
The implementation of the USTDA’s 2021 digital strategy will be facilitated by an expansion of the agency’s presence across the region, with new offices planned for Manila (Philippines), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Jakarta (Indonesia).
The USTDA’s digital strategy will support the US government’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and in particular the Digital Connectivity and Cybersecurity Partnership.
In the framework of the forum, along with digital, the USTDA also declared its 2021 strategic vision for supporting new energy sector infrastructure across the Indo-Pacific region. the USTDA’s 2021 energy sector strategy is designed to fully utilise the agency’s complete toolkit for project preparation and partnership-building activities. This will position the agency in a new and more dynamic way, and more able than ever to provide regional access to the most cutting-edge US energy technologies, solutions, and expertise.
Besides, it unveiled its strategic vision for expanding its Indo-Pacific transportation portfolio in 2021.
The USTDA helps companies create US jobs through the export of US goods and services for priority development projects in emerging economies. The USTDA links US businesses to export opportunities by funding project preparation and partnership building activities that develop sustainable infrastructure and foster economic growth in partner countries. The USTDA currently has a presence in New Delhi (India), Bangkok (Thailand), and Hanoi (Vietnam).
